Refugio Amazonas is built on a private 200 hectare reserve bordering the Tambopata National Reserve. It is surrounded by different habitats, and an active chestnut grant. Refugio Amazonas has the ideal balance between nature exploration and observation of sustainable forest use by local people. The hostel is located ninety minutes by boat from the port city of Puerto Maldonado, but not isolated, since there is radio communication with the city. The lodge has no electricity and the nights are very dark, so we used kerosene lamps and candles. It has electrical generator that is used only once a day to recharge batteries of cameras. Built with local materials combined with modern technology, Refugio Amazonas is built using a combination of native architecture and traditional materials and modern technology of eco-lodges. The lodge consists of four pavilions, each with 8 rooms, connected by roads raised to a common central area of 6 meters high. This structure is the heart of Amazonas Refugio's atmosphere, providing excellent views of the jungle and space to the lobby, dining room, bar, gift shop and lounge.
Refugio Amazonas is a charming jungle lodge with 32 rooms and is ideal for trips of three days and family travel with young children, offering "The trail of the Children's Forest." The rooms are spacious and have private bathrooms with cold showers. Each room has beds, mosquito nets, bedside tables and hammocks or chairs.
