Riding a horse in Peru is always fun, due the wonderful landscapes found in valleys and mountains. It is even more pleasurable if you ride a dancing horse. Peru is well known for the Paso Fino walking horses which are called "Caballo de Paso Peruano”.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PERUVIAN HORSE
Due to the isolation endured for more than 400 years, the Peruvian Paso horse has evolved as one of the purest breeds in the world and as a single entity in the kingdom of the horse. The existence of this breed has been called the greatest triumph of genetic selection ever achieved by a group of breeders. The Peruvian Paso horses are descendants of Berber origin introduced during the conquest. Due to the isolation of nearly 400 years and the farmers were able to carefully and specifically breed for the most desired characteristics, such as body proportions and its lateral gait called “paso llano” isochronous. It is famous for its four beat gait, in which the front legs are bowed laterally, much like the arms of a swimmer. The hind legs are running a long, straight stride, keeping under the hindquarters. The march has three divisions very well preserved, which differs markedly from the lateral movements of other breeds. This type of walking creates an exceptionally smooth movement.
The salt pants at Maras are used since Pre Incan periods and they are located in the Urubamba region.
