Departing from the fabulous gastronomic capital of South America, you will go cross the coastal desert to Paracas's Bay. You will lodge at one of the most luxurious hotels along the coast, the Hotel Paracas which is located on the waterfront and offers incredible ocean-side views. You will visit the Ballestas Islands on board an engine boat. The craft will allow you to see many animals indigenous to the coastal region, such as sea lions, penguins and many sea birds. The beauty of Peruvian nature will become evident as you journey to the mountains to enjoy the marvels of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and its Incan cities. You will travel to Machu Picchu on board the luxurious Hiram Bingham train and will lodge at the beautiful Hotel Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, located only a few steps from the Inca city. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the sunrise over the city and to enter Machu Picchu as many times as you please during the day. You will return to Cuzco in the evening and will stay at the Hotel Libertador Palacio del Inca, which is one of the finest hotels in the city. You will experience the mountainous terrain surrounding Cuzco city while visiting ruins on horseback. The following day you will board a tourist bus and visit the highlights of the city of Cuzco.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN LIMA - TRANSFER TO HOTEL

Upon your arrival in Peru, you will be met by our representative at the airport and will be accompanied to your hotel in Lima in the district of Miraflores, one of the most beautiful and prosperous districts in the capital city. Miraflores is located on the cliffs of La Costa Verde, thereby offering spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.

DAY 2: LIMA CITY TOUR

Today you will have the option to decide what time you wish to visit the city (depending upon your arrival time the previous day). Our guide will show you the City of the Kings in a tour that will include the districts of San Isidro and Miraflores. These districts demonstrate the modern areas of Lima, represented in nice theatres, art galleries and fine restaurants. You will visit the historical center of the city, which contains the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral of Lima, the Government Palace of Peru, and the Convent and Catacombs of San Francisco.

DAY 3: BUS JOURNEY TO PARACAS BAY

You will board a private bus to the city of Paracas. You will drive along the Panamericana   Highway, which follows the entire desert coast of Peru. The bus journey will last three hours. On arrival to Paracas, you will check in at the luxury Paracas Hotel, constructed on the waterfront of the Paracas Bay. This lovely hotel is decorated with modern amenities and offers swimming pools, gardens and great views of the Pacific Ocean. You will have the afternoon free to rest, to enjoy the hotel, or to take a walk along the port of Paracas town, where you will be able to purchase quality crafts or watch the activities of local fishermen.

DAY 4: BALLESTAS ISLANDS - RETURN TRIP TO LIMA

You will board a motor boat to the Ballestas Islands; known as "Small Galapagos" located near the Paracas National Reserve. This Reserve is the only one in the world that protects flora, fauna, maritime geography and coastal geography. The Ballestas Islands is the habitat of more than 200 animal species. You will see flamingos, entire colonies of sea wolves, Humbolt's penguins and many sea birds. After visiting the Islands, you may want to walk across the giant dunes of Paracas National Reserve. In the afternoon, you will make the return drive to your hotel in Lima.

DAY 5: FLIGHT TO CUZCO - TRANSFER TO THE SACRED VALLEY (URUBAMBA)

Our representative will pick you up from your hotel and will accompany you to the airport to board your flight to Cuzco. Upon your arrival in Cuzco city, you will be met by our guide, who will accompany you to the Hotel Libertador Tambo del Inca, located in Urubamba (Sacred Valley). En route you will visit the Awanacancha Llama Farm (The Textile House), a small llama farm where you see and be able to feed the four species of American camelidaes (Llamas, Alpacas, Guanacos and Vicuñas). You will also have the opportunity to learn the process of spinning, dyeing and the weaving of traditional textiles. Lunch will be in a charming restaurant with a nice exhibition of Peruvian horses (Paso Fino Walking Horses). You will have a free afternoon to rest and acclimatize to the altitude.

DAY 6: SACRED VALLEY - PISAQ - URUBAMBA - OLLANTAYTAMBO

You will enjoy a one hour drive to the village of Pisaq, where you will visit the colorful and traditional market. You will have the opportunity to purchase gifts, negotiating the prices with the local vendors. You may choose to sample the “empanadas”, bread stuffed with cheese and baked in traditional, artisanal ovens. Later you will visit a great Inca archaeological site which is located on the mountain top, offering wonderful views of Inca agricultural terraces and the Urubamba Valley below. In the afternoon you will visit the village of Ollantaytambo, where you will visit a local family to witness their life style. You will see how they raise guinea pigs, ducks and chickens in their home. The archaeological site of Ollantaytambo is located a few steps beyond the town and you will have the opportunity to climb the long staircases that ascends to the Temple of the Sun. From there you will have a great view of the town and valley.

DAY 7: LUXURY TRAIN TO MACHU PICCHU - MACHU PICCHU VISIT

You will transfer to Poroy Station to board the luxury Hiram Bingham train to travel to the sacred city of Machu Picchu. The trip will last three hours and thirty minutes and is one of the most spectacular and exciting trips in Peru. The train crosses valleys, canyons and tunnels as it descends to the high jungle of humid and mountainous forests, which hide and protect Machu Picchu. A three course brunch will be served on board. Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes train station; you will board the bus to your hotel, which is located next to the ruins.  You will enjoy an afternoon visit to the ruins accompanied by our expert guide.

DAY 8: MACHU PICCHU - RETURN TRAIN TO CUZCO

You will arise early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise in Machu Picchu. Today you will visit the places that surround Machu Picchu, such as Huayna Picchu mountain (which appears in the traditional photography), or hike to the draw bridge or along the Inca trail to the sun gate. In the evening you will board the Hiram Bingham for your return train trip to Cuzco. On arrival to Poroy train station, you will be transferred to the hotel Monasterio in Cuzco.

DAY 9: HORSE BACK RIDING NEARBY CUZCO RUINS

You will be taken out of downtown Cuzco to meet our horsemen and horses. You will be given a safety briefing and also some training before beginning the journey. Your horseback journey will begin by crossing some valleys, agricultural areas and farmlands, located far from the city. The landscape is fabulous and you will have the opportunity to see snow capped mountains, small lagoons, vegetation and some animals. En route our guide will lead you to the archaeological sites of Tambomachay (Temple of Water), Puca Pucara Fortress, the carved stone cave at Qenqo and the great Inca site of Saqsayhuaman, which is one of the biggest Inca ruins of the region. You will see that it is constructed of huge stones, some the size of a truck. You will enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to the hotel in Cuzco.

DAY 10: CUZCO CITY TOUR

You will visit the historical center of the city. You will first go to the Qoricancha, ancient Temple of the Sun God of the Incas, in which you will see impressive architecture decorated and beautiful gardens. You will visit the Cathedral of Cuzco, one of the largest in Latin America. it is beautifully decorated with art pieces that belong to the 16th and 17th centuries, pinnacle epoch of the Escuela Cuzqueña (Cuzco School of Art). The Cathedral of Cuzco is catalogued as one of the best museums of colonial European art in South America.

DAY 11: FLIGHT TO LIMA

You will have the morning free to enjoy Cuzco. In the afternoon we will accompany you to the airport to board your flight to Lima.
