RAFAEL LARCO HERRERA MUSEUM - Lima

Founded in 1926 in the city of Lima. Larco Herrera Museum exhibits an excellent group of galleries showing a chronological display of 3000 years of development in the history of pre-Columbian Peru. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, it is located in an eighteenth century colonial mansion, which was itself built on a pre-Colombian pyramid from the 7th century.

The art works in the Museum Larco are considered important icons of pre-Columbian art worldwide. The museum features the finest gold and silver collection from ancient Peru and the famous collection of erotic art. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Peru. The Larco Museum is one of the few museums in the world where visitors can tour the storage area with its 45.000 classified archaeological objects, which is an amazing experience.

Conservation and restoration of archaeological heritage of Peru is one of the fundamental missions of the Larco Museum. A team from the Conservation and Restoration Center performs diagnostic software and runs preventive conservation treatment and restoration.

The Museum Gallery reproduces ceramic pieces, jewelry and textiles made by the best craftsmen from the same geographical area where some of the ancient cultures were developed. The Museum formalized the productive activity of those in previous years who were copying pre-Columbian art without regulation. In addition, their products have the support and scientific advice from Larco Museum. H-Stern Jewelers selected key pieces of the best art from pre-Columbian Peru, and designed pieces in 18-karat gold, stones and original materials, while preserving to the highest quality, the spirit of these fascinating civilizations.
