From Lima, the fabulous gastronomical capital of South America, you will fly over the enigmatic Nazca Lines located in the beige Peruvian desert. You w ill visit the Ballestas Islands located near the Paracas National Reserve, also called “Small Galapagos” to see sea wolves, Humbolt’s penguins and sea birds. You will cross the Andes Mountains to the marvelous Cuzco, once capital of the great Inca Empire. In the highlands of Cuzco you will witness the process of making colorful textiles as well as the spectacular green colors of the high jungle, where the lost city of the Incas is located. From this spectacular vista of Machu Picchu you will visit the immense, blue Lake Titicaca and the Uros floating islands.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN LIMA - TRANSFER TO HOTEL

Upon your arrival in Lima, our representative will meet you in the airport and will accompany you to your hotel. This magnificent city is a multicultural pot, which is reflected in its culture, economy, history and cuisine.

DAY 2: LIMA CITY TOUR

You will visit Lima in a tour that will show you the modern and historical attractions of the city. You will visit the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, which show the degree of modernism of the city, including fine art galleries, theatres, charming restaurants with food of five continents and large malls. Immediately afterwards you will drive to the Plaza de Armas of Lima (main plaza), surrounded by The Cathedral and the Government Palace. You will visit the Monastery of San Francisco, one of the most ancient in the city, where you will see the only catacombs found in   Peru. In the evening you will visit Museum Larco Herrera, which houses the largest collection of Pre-Colombian objects in Peru, including pieces of ceramic, gold, silver, and a fine collection of erotic art of Pre-Columbian cultures.

DAY 3: JOURNEY TO ICA - FLIGHT OVER NAZCA LINES

In the morning you will board your transport to the city of Ica. Today you will flight over the Nazca Pampa, which shelters enigmatic lines drawn in the desert, they were used by former Peruvians to represent altars and dedicate rituals and sacrifices to the gods. You will drive to the airport of Ica and board the plane, the flight will take one hour and a half. You will have a briefing before boarding the plane to learn about the culture, flight and what you see on board. After the tour, you will board our private transport to Tacama winery, which the best winery in town and coast of Peru. Later you will drive to Paracas bay.

DAY 4: BALLESTAS ISLANDS - BACK TO LIMA

You will board a motor boat to the Ballestas Islands, known as "Small Galapagos" located near the Paracas National Reserve. This Reserve is the only one in the world that protects flora, fauna, maritime geography and coastal geography. It is the habitat of more than 200 animal species. You will see flamingos, entire colonies of sea wolves, Humbolt's penguins and many sea birds. In the afternoon you will return to your hotel in Lima.

DAY 5: FLIGHT TO CUZCO - CUZCO CITY TOUR

You will board your flight to the city of Cuzco.  Upon your arrival you will be met at the airport and accompanied to the hotel. In the afternoon you will visit Qoricancha, former Temple of the Sun, exhibiting the best Incan architecture in the Andes. You will then visit the Cathedral of Cuzco, one of the largest and most decorated churches in Latin America, containing more than 300 paintings belonging to the Escuela Cuzqueña art estate,  catalogued as one of the most beautiful museums in South America. You will then tour the Inca ruins of Sacsayhuamán, which have a special view of the city. The ruins consist of huge walls constructed in stone, some of which are the size of a small truck.

DAY 6: VISIT TO THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS

You will visit the fertile and beautiful Sacred Valley of the Incas, the area where the former Peruvians constructed many villages and planted extensive fields with vegetable products such as corn, potatoes and coca leaves. You will begin your visit to the Sacred Valley with the colorful, traditional market in Pisaq. You will have the opportunity to purchase handicrafts while negotiating the price with the vendors. In the village you will see traditional bakeries, where you can buy the famous “empanadas”, a treat worth trying! You will motor across the Valley to visit the village of Ollantaytambo. You will visit the Inca archaeological site and the home of a local family in the village, where you will witness the current lifestyle of the town’s people.

DAY 7: TRAIN TO MACHU PICCHU - TOURING THE CITY

You will board the train to one of the seven marvels of the modern world, Machu Picchu. On route the landscape is spectacular with drastically changing vegetation. You will travel to the cloud forest of the high Peruvian jungle, which remains green all year, sheltering Machu Picchu. At your arrival to the train station in Aguas Calientes, you will board a bus to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, which is located on top of the mountain. Our guide will show and explain the most important places of this city; this visit will last the entire morning. After lunch, in the afternoon, you will have the option to remain in Machu Picchu. You will then board the bus down to town to your hotel.

DAY 8: FREE DAY IN MACHU PICCHU - TRAIN BACK TO CUZCO

This will be a free day. You can decide to visit the village of Aguas Calientes or take a walk along the Urubamba River. You may want to return to visit Machu Picchu once again and hike up to the Huayna Picchu Mountain. In the evening you will board the return train to the city of Cuzco.

DAY 9: JOURNEY TO PUNO

The road from Cuzco to Puno is extremely pretty and interesting; depending on the transport you decide to take. PACHA TOURS & TRIPS provides the following options for your travel enjoyment, depending on trip duration, time, what to see and visit, or the level of comfort you are seeking. *On board the Luxury Andean Explorer Train: 10 hour trip to Puno. This train provides a restaurant car and a panoramic car, where you can enjoy the scenery. Lunch is included. This train is non-stop. *By plane: 45-minute journey. Direct flight from Cuzco to Juliaca. Once there, a 45 minute transfer to Puno will be provided. *On board a Tourist Bus: 8 hour trip to Puno. Lunch is included. This bus stops 4 times, to have lunch and to visit 3 interesting touristic attractions, of the Colonial, Inca and Pre Inca epochs (Andahuaylillas church, Raqchi site and Pukara site).

DAY 10: TOUR TO LAKE TITICACA - UROS FLOATING ISLANDS

You will visit beautiful Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. You will have an early start to the lake port where you will board a motorboat to navigate this immense lake. You will visit the floating islands of the Uros, where lake inhabitants use Totora reeds to create floating islands.  Inhabitants live on these islands, raising cattle, planting crops, fishing and hunting birds.  You will then visit Taquile Island, where its inhabitants continue to practice the customs and traditions from ancient periods and their ancestors, all represented in the agriculture and the textile art. Suprisingly, the textiles are woven by the men of the island. 

DAY 11: FLIGHT TO LIMA

You will motor to Juliaca to board your flight to the city of Lima.
