CHOQUEQUIRAO TRAIL 5D/4NCUZCO - CACHORA - CHOQUEQUIRAO
Choquequirao was one of the last Inca cities built in the cloud forest area during the fifteenth century, the route is very difficult and the only way to get there is by foot along the same path of 60 km / 38 miles round trip, perhaps only for experienced people ... Fortunately the route allows horses to help you to climb the steep walls of the deep canyon of the Apurimac river on horse back riding. DAY 1: CUZCO - CACHORA - CHIQUISKA
DAY 2: CHIQUISKA - CHOQUEQUIRAO DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO DAY 4: CHOQUEQUIRAO - PLAYA ROSALINAS (ROSALINDAYOC) DAY 5: PLAYA ROSALINAS - CACHORA - CUZCO Total walking distance: ……………….…………..38 miles - 60 Km Temperature: ………………………………………Min (4°C) - Max(28°C) ITINERARYDAY 1: CUZCO - CACHORA - CHIQUISKAYou will leave the hotel in Cusco early in the morning and drive for three hours through the highway Cusco - Lima until Saywite and then take a detour for one hour to the small town of Cachora (9636 ft / 2920 m). After contacting our horsemen and horses, you will start the trek north direction for three hours until the first pass Capuliyoc (9900 ft / 3000 m) from here you already see far above the mountains Choquequirao Inca city (10164 ft / 3080 m) and the depth of the impressive Apurimac river canyon. After a little rest the trail drops down into the valley limiting with the hillside and the cliff until reaching the spectacular lookout of Cocasamana (6650 ft / 2015 m), which is small straw shelter built on a promontory of the hill from where you get to see The Condor (largest flying bird in the world) sometimes. Camp in Chiquisca (5775 ft / 1700 m) is located about an hour before reaching the Apurimac River. Overnight : Campsite at Chiquiska DAY 2: CHIQUISKA - CHOQUEQUIRAOYou start early morning to walk down to the river beach called Rosalindayoc or Playa Rosalinas (4785 ft / 1450 m), from this point the path goes extreme uphill for five hours until Marampata pass (10065 ft / 3050 m), on the route will pass through Santa Rosa (6930 ft / 2100 m) which is owned by the family Covarrubias and they are dedicated to distill sugar cane juice to make the sugar cane liquor, this small place is used as an oasis for travelers. In the afternoon after lunch you walk for an hour and a half along a bumpy trail until reach the camp in Choquekirao (10164 ft / 3080 m). Overnight : Campsite at Choquequirao DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAOToday is a special day and you will dedicate it strictly to visit the archaeological complex on a guided tour by our guide including even newly discovered areas of the city. In the afternoon you may want to sit at the city’s highest point to enjoy the sunset. Overnight : Campsite at Choquequirao DAY 4: CHOQUEQUIRAO - PLAYA ROSALINAS (ROSALINDAYOC)Today you start our return journey after breakfast and walk for five hours to the campsite. In the morning you walk to Marampata (10065 ft / 3050 m) from where you begin to descend in to the canyon to Santa Rosa (6930 ft / 2100 m) where rest and lunch. After recovering energies you walk to the campsite located in the riverside (4785 ft / 1450 m) Overnight : Campsite at Rosalindayoc DAY 5: PLAYA ROSALINAS - CACHORA - CUZCOYou will wake up very early to start hiking uphill for six hours to the Capuliyoc pass (9900 ft / 3000 m) where you have lunch, in the afternoon you will walk to Cachora town where our bus is waiting to bring you back to Cusco.
